A small, hand-picked Australian collection of vintage VW Splitscreen Kombis. The five restored ones are road-ready. The six project ones are honest starting points. All of them looked after personally by Ray.
Found in a dusty South African garage. Restored in Australia. Ready to drive home tomorrow.
One of the rarest factory camper conversions Westfalia ever produced · and now one of the only road-ready right-hand-drive examples in the country. Mechanical rebuild. Cosmetic strip-and-respray. Period-correct two-tone factory livery. Drives like a 1961 Kombi should, only better.
Ray finds them.
The right ones
get kept.
the rest stay honest.
Buses come in from South Africa, Namibia, Germany · wherever the dry climates, original owners, and complete cars still are. Sourcing is where the work starts, not where it ends.
Every bus gets a thorough mechanical and structural inspection before it joins the collection. Tinworm, accident history, drive-train condition · the grade gets stamped before the polishing rag comes out.
Two tracks. No middle. Either the bus earns a full restoration · Concours-grade, period-correct, mechanically rebuilt · or it stays honest as a project bus, sold as it is, with everything we know about it on the table.
Every restored bus gets driven before it gets photographed and listed. Anything that rattles, leaks, or sulks gets sorted. Listings only go up when the bus would pass a road trip start-to-finish.
1950 to 1967. The full Type 2 T1 era. After 1967 the split was gone, replaced by the one-piece Bay Window screen.
Air-cooled flat-four, rear-mounted. The unhurried mechanical heart of every Splitscreen · simple, serviceable, surprisingly competent.
Five restored, road-ready. Six project starting points. Every one personally inspected and graded before it enters the collection.
Front V-seam, round headlights, rounded fenders, chrome bumper, V-emblem. The silhouette that built modern camping culture.
For builders, restorers, and the people who want the project to be the point. Each one is photographed, graded, and sold honestly · with everything we know about it on the table.
First-time enquiry, technical question about a specific bus, or after-hours message · phone, message or email all land with Ray directly. We look forward to being part of your Splitscreen journey.
